New research by CCR Expo (Clinical + Cosmetic + Reconstructive) has given an interesting insight into how the industry itself views the Aesthetic Treatments arena.
A survey of over 70 cosmetic practitioners including doctors, surgeons, dermatologists and nurses gave an overwhelming warning as nearly 9/10 felt too many untrained providers are offering aesthetic procedures, damaging the reputation of properly qualified clinicians. This concern included those medically qualified but with no specific qualifications or training in cosmetic procedures.
When asked what the biggest problem was:
- 34% said new practitioners lacking specialist expertise – such as high level training in facial anatomy
- 23% said providers unable to diagnose or cope with complications
- 16% said wrong treatments, dosages and unproven products being used
87% of respondents said that this was a danger to the public.
When asked what they thought other medical colleagues (not involved in aesthetic treatments) thought of the sector, the survey found that a third said it was seen with strong prejudice, and as “beneath them” although an equal number said their colleagues probably saw the field as lucrative but were scared to enter it due to lack of knowledge.
This survey points to the need for reputable and professional training for those working in the aesthetic treatments business and those looking to ‘branch out’ into it.
