Many SkinViva Training delegates are interested in the V300 Non Medical Prescribing Qualification.
What is V300?
V300 Non-Medical Prescribing is the qualification that non-medically qualified individuals will need if they wish to Prescribe BOTOX (botulinum toxin) for their own patients and/or those of other practitioners.
Non-Medical Prescribing courses provide the opportunity for Nurses, Midwives, Pharmacists and other relevant Allied Health Professionals to gain a qualification enabling them to prescribe.
Suitably qualified medical professionals such as Doctors and Dentists can already prescribe under their own qualifications and do not require V300 in addition.
BOTOX is a Prescription-Only Medicine (POM) and it is against the law to administer BOTOX without a prescription for that individual client.
Remember that you do NOT need a prescription for administering dermal fillers as these are not a prescription-only medicine.
What if I don’t have V300?
If you don’t have V300 and wish to carry out BOTOX treatments, you still have some options:
- Qualify for V300 yourself
- Don’t offer BOTOX treatments as part of your treatment range
- Arrange to work with a Prescriber who can provide prescriptions for your clients – this is the commonest option for non-prescribing practitioners See our FAQ page for advice on how to find one
Qualifying for V300
The V300 Non-Medical Prescribing course is not something we offer at SkinViva Training Academy, but it is available in a wide variety of universities in the UK. We list a few on our FAQ page but for more extensive information and choices, we suggest simply searching Google for a list of V300 course universities.
Courses do vary, so the following information is provided as a guide only.
- A typical V300 course comprises of a number of taught days, usually spread over a number of months
- Entry criteria tend to stipulate working practitioners with NMC or HCPC entry criteria and 3 years’ post-registration experience, with 12 months being in the area you intend to prescribe within
- Assessment will be based on a combination of:
- Theory – including exams, prescription-writing tests and a dissertation or case study
- Practical assessment – including a portfolio and practical assessment over 90 clinical hours
This information is subject to change and can vary between the universities, so please liaise with the course provider.
The V300 course is an onerous undertaking, both in terms of time and financial investment.
We recommend starting with a SkinViva Training course in non-surgical treatments first as an opportunity to ensure that you like non-surgical treatments.
One of the most common professionals we take bookings for as training delegates on the Combined Botox & Dermal Filler training course are non-prescribing nurses and they are able to set up their own businesses without the V300 qualification by working with a local prescriber.
Finding a Prescriber
Many practitioners are able to find a local prescriber through networking with their own contacts. Alternatively, SkinViva Training can check our database of prescribers or put you in touch with a company which specialises in sourcing prescribers.
Do expect to have to pay a Prescriber’s fee for attending appointments (the Prescriber must be present to assess the patient, although they don’t have to be present for the treatment itself.
See our prescribing FAQs for more information.

Hello I am a qualified dental nurse since 2017 and fully registered and have completed an asthetics course. I’m currently working with a prescriber but would like to be able to prescribe myself. Is this a course you offer and if so would like to enquire about the cost.
Regards
Brenda
We don’t offer training in prescribing here at SkinViva Training Academy. The V300 qualification is a university course. In addition to this news post, you’ll find more useful information in our prescribing FAQ. To find a suitable university, you can also try Google – V300 course universities.

Hi there
As a qualified Dental Nurse already practicing in Botox, Would I be able to enrol on a V300 prescribing course ?
Thanks so much x
Hi Jodie, it would be down to the University’s entry criteria. They tend to stipulate working practitioners with NMC or HCPC entry criteria and 3 years’ post-registration experience, with 12 months being in the area you intend to prescribe within. However, requirements can vary and it’s worth having a chat with them if you’re not sure. We recommend it’s best to chat to a couple of course providers and see what they suggest. Good luck.
Also would like to know it .
Hi Jackeline, as above, acceptance to V300 course is subject to the University’s entry criteria. We recommend contacting a couple of course providers to see whether your qualifications and experience would meet their requirements.

Hello, my girlfriend is thinking about doing a masters in physiotherapy. She has aspirations to be able to administer botox as well as being able to prescribe. As a physiotherapist, could you take the V300 non medical prescribers course and this be succifient and relevant qualifications to do the above? Or is it exclusively for nurses/ doctors etc?
Entry to the V300 prescribing course is down to the educational establishment’s entry criteria. At the time of writing, Chester University require applicants to:
Once qualified to V300, then she would need to attend a practical course for BOTOX®. Insurers tend to insist on this whether a practitioner is prescribing, injecting or both.
Please note the above is guidance only and is understood to be correct at the time of writing. Criteria and requirements are subject to change.
Hope this helps, please feel free to contact us if you need more guidance.

Hi, I am not a medical profecional but currently working in a beauty salon which provides treatments like Botox and fillers. I was wondering if there would be a possibility for me to apply for the prescribing course? I have a degree but I want a career change and I know this course would be beneficial to the place I currently work in.
Thank you in advance.
The V300 prescribing course is offered by certain universities, who all stipulate their own entry criteria. It is a course for medical professionals, but you could review the exact entry criteria with the universities for further clarification.
Hi I qualified as nurse independent prescriber in 2009. I then changed my job in the NHS so I havent prescribed for at least 8 years and as currently working in ICU prescribing is not required. I am still registered as a prescriber and RGN part 1 with the NMC. I’m interested in doing a Botox and fillers course on successful completeion on course can I prescribe Botox or who can you recommend I speak to for advice
Hi Sharlene, if you still have prescribing rights, then it sounds OK. However, you would also need to satisfy the insurers. The best thing to do would be to contact our team for advice on your particular situation.
You can contact us via email info@skinvivatraining.com or else call 0161 850 2491 to find out more.
Hi do you offer the service of DMP as a mentor for the V300 course at all please?
Thanks
Hi, if you are a past delegate, the best approach would be to ask on the SkinViva Trainee Network Facebook. We also have some DMPs identified on the Prescribers List.
Hi,
I am RGN, and I am interested in doing botox training.I would do this in other country. Can you please tell me is it worth doing v300 as not planing to practice here, and your advice on this, what would be the best to do in my situation so that I can give botox.thank you
Dani
If you’re practising in the UK and/or planning to train here, you do not need to take the V300 first. Indeed, many nurses find the best way to sequence it is to train in basic Botox/filler, then practise until you have built your business to a point where you are clear aesthetics is your future (obviously working with a prescriber partner – we have a list of them), then invest in the V300.
If you’d like to have an exploratory chat about training with one of our experts, please email us at info@skinvivatraining.com and we’d be happy to arrange that.
Hi,
I am currently looking into the Botox and dermal filler course. I am not able to prescribe, and wondering if it would it be possible to just provide dermal filler treatments? Alternatively to this, If I did also offer Botox, are you able to share some information as to how I would work alongside a prescriber? I am currently just trying to see how this would work as I will be doing this mobile alongside my current day job. Also could you give a rough guide on pricing as I am clueless on how much profit would be made with buying the products and paying the prescriber etc. Many thanks and I look forward to hearing from you
Hi, you could choose to only offer dermal fillers, but many of our delegates work with a prescriber so as to be able to offer the choice of treatments. You may find these pages of interest:
Our team has lots of experience and advice, so if you would find it useful to chat things through, please do email info@skinvivatraining.com with your contact number, or else call direct on 0161 850 2491.
