SkinViva Training’s Clinical Director Dr Tim Pearce has produced a video to demonstrate a good consultation for BOTOX® injections to treat excessive sweating.
The video gives a comprehensive overview of how to carry out a good consultation and also demonstrates treatment being carried out.
Dr Tim Pearce describes it as one of the treatments that SkinViva have the most positive reaction from. The patient explains that he’s always had a problem with excessive sweating and his armpits are damp even in a cool office environment. He’d tried all sorts of products but was new to BOTOX® injections.

Risks & Complications
Although very rare, Dr Tim Pearce explains the potential risks and complications of treatment, including localised bleeding, infection, allergic reaction, itching, headaches, flu-like symptoms and irritation.
Planning a Treatment
Dr Pearce explains how to plan treatment and how to spread out injections
“The key thing is we need to divide 50 units of BOTOX around all the apocrine glands in each armpit. So your total dose is 100 units and we’re doing 50 units per side. The most important thing is that when you start injecting you don’t run out of product before you’ve covered the whole armpit.”
Dr Tim demonstrates how to mark up the area in order to spread the product to cover all glands with a small amount of BOTOX.
He then explains how deeply to inject the product
“If you inject too deeply, you’re going to waste product, because the sweat glands are all in the dermis and all of your injections therefore need to be intradermal.
“This has got a knack to it. It sounds easy but I’ve trained a lot of people and they seem to struggle with getting it just the right depth.”
Dr Pearce explains and demonstrates how at the right depth, the skin will blanche and a bubble of product will appear within the dermis.
