BOTOX® Training – Mephisto or Spock Eyebrows

eyebrow botoxMephisto brows, or Spock brows is the term given to eyebrows which upturn sharply and unnaturally.

This is an effect which can be an unwanted consequence of BOTOX treatment. While BOTOX brow lifts can be effective at rejuvenation, exaggerated eyebrows are not a good look.

In our latest training guide, Dr Tim Pearce provides his advice on how to manage eyebrow shape through use of BOTOX.

What are Mephisto Brows?

Dr Tim says:

“Mephisto is a fictional character that appears in comic books published by Marvel Comics. The character first appears in Silver Surfer #3 (Dec. 1968) and was introduced in the Marvel universe by Stan Lee and John Buscema, based on Mephistopheles – a demon character from the Faust legend, who often went by ‘Mephisto’ as a nickname.

“He has ‘evil eyebrows’ which upturn unnaturally sharply.”

Spock Brows?

These need less introduction – yes, they are indeed named after the Star Trek character whose sharp eyebrows were his trade mark (along with pointed ears!).

How to Correct Mephisto/Spock Brows

Dr Tim has provided advice on this subject to the SkinViva Trainee Network. He advises that:

“you can soften the mephisto sign with a low dose as per this diagram- 1 unit or less of botox. The more inferior the dose, the lower it would be.”

Members of the SkinViva Trainee Network can access a diagram on the closed Facebook group illustrating the exact positioning of the injections – search BOTOX brow positioning for Mephisto Brow on the group page.

Dr Tim continues:

“Be careful here, as it’s VERY easy to cause a brow ptosis. The cure is at the next treatment to put less medially, and often to move injection points higher up the forehead. Unfortunately this can mean more lines – this is a very difficult area to get exactly right, as we are aiming for a compromise between lift and lines, and there is only a very narrow window of perfection in many people.”

“It is easiest in younger people, older people have just as strong muscles, but weaker less resistant skin, so the sign can be stronger.”
