Level 7 Certificate in Injectables for Aesthetic Medicine
In the latest on our series of articles on the new Level 7 Certificate in Injectables for Aesthetic Medicine, Business Development Director Lee Cottrill examines the future of 1 day BOTOX and dermal filler training courses, in the light of the new Level 7 developments.
Lee explains:
“1-day courses have been a feature of the aesthetics market, well, since it started I guess.
“They’re part of the inception and natural evolution of any marketplace whereby the skilled impart their knowledge onto the unskilled.
“As a market progresses however, it’s inevitable that standardisation and quality control come into place as regulatory bodies get involved with addressing the gaps in knowledge and teaching. To my mind, this evolution is a good thing but is always a source of uncertainty.
“Is this the end of 1-day courses then?
“In my opinion, 1-day courses will always have their place in training.
“They’re flexible, cost-effective, easy-to-access and when delivered with quality standards and experienced trainers they provide a valuable vehicle for training.
“It goes without saying that the range in quality of 1-day courses in aesthetics varies considerably taking into account factors such as the experience of the trainers, the level of support afterwards, the ethics around the patient consultation, and who is receiving the training (…we’re all aware of the rise of the non-medical injector which to my mind is not appropriate unless the injector belongs to a Professional Statutory and Regulatory Body (PSRB) who can hold them to account for malpractice…).
“How we go about standardising these ‘modular’ 1-day courses is a difficult problem BUT, when done well, I do believe 1-day courses have a role to play in the future of building a safer, more regulated aesthetics market.”
