Top 3 BOTOX® Injection Patterns

Clinical Director and aesthetic trainer, Dr Tim, has given his expert guidance on the top three BOTOX® treatment areas and how to mark up the injection patterns safely and effectively for clients.

Below, you’ll find BOTOX® injection patterns for the three key areas of the upper face :

  • The Glabella
  • Crow’s Feet
  • Forehead

Experienced aesthetic clinician Dr Tim Pearce (MBChb, BSc(hons), MRCGP) says:

“Typically, the three main treatment areas for Botox are the Glabella, the forehead and Crow’s feet and they all have their own specific Botox injection patterns.

“The Glabella (more commonly known as the frown line) contains a group of muscles which contract when a person furrows their brow. This contraction, over time, causes the vertical lines which we refer to as frown lines.

“You need five injection points for this treatment”

“Another area that is commonly injected is around the eyes. This targets the lines that are referred to as crow’s feet (some people might call them smile lines). The orbicularis oculi is the muscle around the eye that contracts when you smile and this large muscle is responsible for the fine lines around the eye area that appear with age.

“There are three injection points laterally around the edge of the edge of the eye that help the muscle relax and soften any lines.”

“The final area that is commonly treated is the forehead for the softening of horizontal wrinkles. This is made up of the frontalis, which is the broad muscle that lifts the eyebrows when it contracts and causes the fine lines across a person’s forehead.

“A typical injection pattern for this area consists of five strategically placed points across the forehead. However, in someone who has a larger forehead, you may need another row of lines.

“Injection points across the forehead can be manipulated based on the desired outcome for instance, sometimes you may want to create a brow lift. You would achieve this by altering your Botox injection pattern slightly.”
